Doxee is a semisynthetic antibiotic of the group of tetracyclines of a wide spectrum of action.
Contraindications of Doxee
Pregnancy, children’s age of up to 8 years (the possibility of formation of insoluble complexes with calcium in the bone skeleton, enamel and dentin of teeth), hypersensitivity to tetracyclines, porphyria, severe hepatic insufficiency, leukopenia, lactation period, myasthenia gravis (for intravenous administration). Allergy to tetracyclines. Tetracyclines used during the formation and development of teeth can lead to disruptions in their development, which can range from persistent changes in their color, even (in extremely severe cases) to a complete retardation of their growth. Therefore, except for vital indications, tetracyclines are not allowed in the second half of pregnancy, during lactation, as well as in children before the 8th year of life.
Special instructions
With care apply Doxycycline in case of violations of the liver. With violations of kidney function, dose adjustment is not required. To prevent locally irritating effect (esophagitis, gastritis, ulceration of the gastrointestinal tract) it is recommended to take in the daytime hours with a lot of liquid, food. In connection with the possible development of photosensitization, it is necessary to limit the insolation during treatment and for 4-5 days after it.
Doxycycline is not used in children under 8 years of age, since tetracyclines (including doxycycline) cause a long-term discoloration of the teeth, hypoplasia of the enamel and slowing of the longitudinal growth of the skeleton bones in this category of patients.
Doxycycline solution for intravenous administration should be used no later than 72 hours after its preparation.
Side effect of Doxee
From the digestive system: nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, dysphagia, glossitis, esophagitis, transient increase in blood levels of hepatic transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, bilirubin. On the part of the hematopoiesis system: neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic anemia. Allergic reactions: skin rash, itching, eosinophilia, rarely – Quincke’s edema, photosensitivity. Other: increased residual nitrogen, candidiasis, intestinal dysbiosis, discoloration of teeth in children. In some cases, blood pressure changes.
