General information about Fempro
In which case is Fempro used?
Fempro are used to treat breast cancer in postmenopausal women and are used as a first-line treatment for breast cancer that has been detected in an advanced or metastatic condition (spreads outside of breast tissue). Fempro is also used as an adjunctive therapy or adjunct to early breast cancer in conjunction with other breast cancer treatments with tamoxifen, or if tamoxifen therapy has not helped to prevent the progression of the tumor.
How does Fempro work?
Letrozole contain letrozole, which is a potent and highly selective inhibitor of aromatase, an enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of female estrogen hormone. In premenopausal women, the main source of estrogen production is the ovaries and is involved in the production of secondary sexual characteristics, such as breast development and regulation of the menstrual cycle. In postmenopausal women, when estrogen production from the ovaries ceases, low levels of estrogen are produced in peripheral tissues, such as fat cells in the body, as well as some breast cancer cells, by conversion of the androstenedione (produced by the adrenal glands) in estrone to the action of aromatase, then by a new conversion to estradiol (the most active form of circulating estrogen). Many breast cancers have estrogen receptors and their growth is stimulated by estrogen; Low levels of estrogen may be sufficient to maintain the growth of breast cancer cells in women with breast cancer. Letrozole in Fempro blocks the action of aromatase, preventing the formation of estrogen and helping to prevent the growth of estrogen-dependent breast tumors.
What does Fempro contain?
Fempro contain the active ingredient letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor that blocks estrogen biosynthesis and is used to treat breast cancer.
